Youth Takeover Festival 2015: Acting Up Juniors! & 3Style Friday Showcase @Richmix
Acting Up Juniors and 3 Style Friday, in association with Big Deal, were delighted to perform at the Rich Mix Youth Arts Takeover Festival 2015 this weekend for the first time.
It’s been a busy summer for young performers in Barking & Dagenham. Courtesy of funding from Children In Need and Esmee Fairbairn Foundation, leading arts organization Studio 3 Arts have been offering tremendous opportunities for young dancers, actors and comedians under the banner of Big Deal, the company’s award-winning youth arts programme and 3 Style Friday, their cornerstone monthly street dance event.
Following two action-packed weeks of rehearsing and performing with Studio 3 Arts’s intensive summer school of dance, theatre and comedy, these young local performers finally brought their work to a capacity crowd at RichMix and each showcased their absorbing and dynamic talents in dance and theatre.
Firstly, the 3 Style Friday team performed a pulsating choreographed dance routine that incorporated a number of styles including hip hop, krump, locking and lindyhop, organized and championed by internationally acclaimed Studio 3 Arts choreographer in residence, Jade Hackett and Dagenham’s very own award winning choreographer Claire Hough.
Meanwhile, the Acting Up Juniors, hosted by the outstandingly funny Ashley J (Studio 3 Arts actor in residence) and Tee-J brought together two teams of young performers for a hilarious live improvised comedy game show. The performance showcased their creative skills through songs, scenes and parodies based on simply audience suggestions - all umpired by Soul City superstar DJ Tommy Sparks.
Liza Vallance, Executive Director for Studio 3 Arts: “Our Big Deal young actors company took on an incredible challenge - performing live, improvised comedy in front of a packed theatre audience at a professional venue, and they really rose to the challenge, they were amazing. Added to this was the incredibly impressive dance piece performed by our Big Deal dance group to open the show. What an afternoon of talent and ambition on display from our young people'”
The event was a true representation to the outstanding talent in dance, theatre and comedy Barking & Dagenham’s young performers have and was also a testament to the tireless efforts of Studio 3 Arts and Big Deal in providing quality artistic opportunities to exhibit such talent.
We are all tremendously proud to be involved in this performance and look forward to future exhibitions under the Big Deal and 3StyleFriday spotlight.
