We Made It! Thank You For Donating!
The borough’s acclaimed arts organisation Studio 3 Arts are today celebrating reaching their fundraising target for their forthcoming production of Shakespeare’s Merchant of Venice, thanks to a significant sponsor pledge by Vicarage Field Shopping Centre.
Studio 3 Arts have been fundraising online for the past month to achieve an ambitious total of £80k to create an outdoor professional production of the Shakespearean classic, Merchant of Venice, scheduled to take place in July 2016, in the year of the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s death. Fundraising kicked off with a £40k commission from Creative Barking and Dagenham, followed by a £10k pledge from the London Mayor. Over 40 donations from individuals followed, and with the deadline of 31st October to meet the challenging target approaching, the Vicarage Field team stepped up and ensured the project could launch as planned. The Centre has recently been bought by leading property fund Benson Elliotand when Director of Retail Peter Cornforth learned about the project he was quick to appreciate the connection between developing Barking as a creative hub and the future role that the town centre environment and its shopper offer can play.
Of the project, Cornforth said: ‘With all our investments, we regard it as a priority and privilege to engage in the community and cultural life of a place. Supporting this exciting project presents a great opportunity to develop a dialogue with our stakeholder and customer base. We very much looking forward to seeing the project develop over the coming months.’
Studio 3 Arts are naturally delighted about the sponsorship. Artistic Director Liza Vallance said: ‘I’m thrilled and excited that Vicarage Field’s new owners see the potential and value in our work. This production is our most ambitious and highest profile project to date and with Peter and his team’s support on board it’ll be even bigger still. We can’t wait to get started!’
Studio 3 Arts are seeking local people to be involved in the project as actors, crew and supporters. If you would like to make artistic history in Barking in 2016, contact Studio 3 Arts on 020 8594 7136 or firstname.lastname@example.org
