Art In Parks

  • Arts In Parks 1

Originally created as a three-year partnership programme of work with the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham, the `Arts In Parks’ project involves a range of creative responses and activities that allow everyone from children, dog walkers and elders to have an active role in shaping and engaging with their park through fun and memorable experiences.

Promoting community involvement in the regeneration of parks is a key part of our Art In The Public Realm programme.

Public art in parks could involve a range of activities and the creative outcomes can take many forms. Recent examples in our work have included:
    - One off public workshops

    - Permanent and temporary artworks
    - Creative signage
    - Artist residencies
    - Site specific response
    - Creative consultation projects

One example of our work is ‘Arts In Parks’ - an ongoing initiative in partnership with Barking and Dagenham and Natural England. ‘Arts in Parks’ aim is to encourage individuals, communities and park staff to better engage with and enjoy local green spaces.

One strand of the initiative is a series of workshops created to allow local children to design and make artwork that reconnects the community with Mayesbrook Park.

Children involved in ‘Arts In Parks’ created a series of poster designs and a public art nature trail. These artworks then formed part of a larger borough initiative to restore the Mayes Brook into the park, enriching the landscape for people and wildlife.

As well as residents and communities we like to encourage and support professionals/organisations that want to broaden their experience in creative consultation and delivery within parks setting.

’Arts In Parks’ includes an 8-week training programme for Parks Rangers to participate in a wide range of artforms. Our professional artists explored the practical aspects of setting up and managing arts projects in parks. Rangers then feed their experience and ideas into a series of public workshops, which in turn forms the basis of a DVD for new Rangers.
