Studio 3 Arts is an issue driven arts organisation delivering visual, digital and performing arts programmes, principally in the London Boroughs of Barking & Dagenham, Waltham Forest, Redbridge and Havering.
We specialise in engaging disadvantaged and hard to reach communities through shared arts participation, addressing current and emerging social issues in an inclusive and original way.
Studio 3 Arts is funded by Arts Councils England and London Councils.
Studio 3 Arts uses art to make people’s lives better.
Our aim is to use creativity to build communities. By encouraging existing interest in arts, and offering new creative experiences, we hope to improve individual lives, reduce social exclusion, and help to build stronger communities.
Our mission is to make art available to everyone. We encourage people to explore artforms they know and enjoy, and enable them to try new, untried ones. This process allows us to discover new, emerging artists and make art happen in unexpected places. Our work is high quality, dynamic and cutting edge.
Participation is at the heart of what we do.
With the financial support of our partners we develop opportunities which afford local people the chance to collaborate on high quality art projects taking place in their community. We believe this art - and creative involvement generally - improves individual lives and the lives and locale of all those around us.
Studio 3 Arts has a 23-year track record of producing high quality artwork with communities and individuals. We have considerable experience of working with diverse groups, including:
• Older people
• Young people
• Offenders
• Babies and children
• Disabled people
• Faith-based groups
• People new to the UK
• Mental health survivors
• Gifted and talented young people
• Socially excluded/marginalised people and groups
Our goal is to make art available to everyone.
The majority of our work comes in the form of commissions, employing art in response to emerging and current issues. We assign professional artists with a brief to develop the highest quality, best practice arts projects which address these issues and engage communities and individuals. Our artists work in a range of artforms, and most of our projects employ some element of cross-discipline collaboration. We are currently working in the following arts disciplines:
Art in the public realm
- Mural design
- Mosaic
- Sculpture
- Creative horticulture
Performing arts
- Dance - Street / Breakdance / Contemporary
- Drama – devising / physical theatre / playwrighting
- Music – composition / lyric writing / performance
Digital arts
- Photography
- Music production
- Film making
- Graphic design
We deliver these artforms through four strategic, overarching strands:
Big Deal: Arts for children and young people aged 0-19
The Generator: Art that bring different generations together
Visible Art: Art in public places and spaces
Art for Improvement: Arts training, strategy development, and consultation
Working in partnership to effect change.
Our work is produced in collaboration with a variety of local, regional and national bodies. Together we find ways to address current and emerging issues of social concern. With the financial and strategic support of our partners we devise art programmes that bring professional artists together with local communities to explore these issues through a variety of creative media.
In recent months these issues have included:
Community cohesion
Gun and knife crime
Teenage pregnancy
Discrimination
Cultural and social heritage
Identity celebration
Local history
Body image and obesity
Health and wellbeing
Journeys and diaspora
Our work is a real collaboration between Studio 3 Arts and our partners, who are consulted through every stage of the process, with joint aims, outcomes and monitoring methodology.
We are grateful for the support of both Arts Council England and London Councils, both of whom have made Studio 3 Arts one of their key regularly funded organisations.
